Let's hear some feedback from the field on savages new longrange hunter in all calibers, but especially in the 6.5x284. I'm considering one for a med weight longrange western hunting gun. Thanks for you thoughts!
What's availability generally been like on them? I've seen a few in dealers but not in 6.5x284. I hate to order one now and have it arrive in October... Of couse I might have a pst for it by then. Haha
Savage target rifles in 6.5-284 shoot great! They do estrememly well in F-class comps. That being said...that is one dopey looking rifle. The whole Karsten tyhing on a $10 stock? 26" bbl with a muzzlebrake in a somewhat sporter configuration? Almost a GRAND?If you want a 6.5-284..you are probably better served by getting a 270 or 06 savage and having a nice custom bbl installed and it still would be cheaper than this rifle. I just can't get over that $100 cheekpiece on a $10 stock....if that! All that being said..I bet the rifle shoot great like most Savages do.
It could be the AccuStock which is not a $10 stock. I would still try to get a normal savage snd upgrade the stock and/or barrel to exactly what you want.
Thanks for your thoughts. I'm torn between the 6.5 and a 7wsm... Any suggestions on that one? If I did the wsm I'd probably do a gap and have to sell off a few safe queens.
If you are shooting more often at 600 yards plus...I'd definately do a 7mm. Heavier bullets and more energy plus better wind deflection (depending on choice of bullets used)
Boy, it seems like there isn't much first hand experience with these guns online. I can't really find any reviews anywhere... Maybe there just aren't many out in the field yet. I know they're pretty hard to find in stores.
