what is better and why. one piece base or use the two piece base that came with the rifle? what one piece base are you guys using? i use one piece base on my centerfire rifles i dont know if it makes a differance on a rimfire.

when you start shooting past 150 yards (due to the extreme drop of .22 lr ammo at that distance), most scopes will run out of enough adjustment to compensate, some scopes will run out while even using mildots, crosshair post tapers, etc. for holdovers.

the moa base "tips" the scope a little higher in the back, lower in the front to allow the scope not to run out of adjustment for the longer distances.

Re: savage 93R17 TR scope base

Does anyone have any info that would help someone decide if they wanted to buy an egw or rimfire tech base? are they the same essentially? quality differences at all?

Re: savage 93R17 TR scope base

holy smokes how far out are you guys shooting these rimfires?

not knocking anyone, but I manage 300 yard hits on my 17HMR without any MOA bases... however I am using a holdover technique...

Interesting tho... I might look into a new base in the future... thinking of upgrading to a scope with mil turrets

Re: savage 93R17 TR scope base

top predator mentioned 22lr. 22lr drops a LOT more then 17hmr.

I ran some numbers between my 22lr and my 17HMR the other day. At 200 yards my 17 drops 8 inches. The same distance the 22LR drops 46 inches. Thats off a calculator for my elevation and range conditions so mileage may vary.

Vman:

Look at the difference in cartrige size between a .22LR and a .17HMR, the .17 has a LOT more bang behind it than a .22LR.

More push = greater velocity = flatter ballistic trajectory = less drop. Make sense?

for a relevant discussion about .22LR drop and scoping options, see my thread... here:

Any feedback on the mount?

boobie - RIMFIRE TECHNOLOGIES / EGW BASE REVIEW

vman - holdover works most of the time, sometimes not, but the base is of great value when putting the center of the cross hairs on the target and getting proper dope.

munimula - at 200 yards, i'm getting 69" drop with 20" barrel and "match ammo velocity" of 1035. 50 yard zero. that baby drops!
