So I am starting a my first long range build on a savage 110 action. Question I have is that I just traded into an Accurate Mag DBM that came off of a Savage HS precision 338 which should be here today or tomorrow. The issue is that the mag opening in the bottom of my action is 3.715" and the DBM is for the 3.850" mags/opening. I have a tooled up knee mill and am not afraid to use it. Is there anything special with the actions with the 3.850" opening? Can I just open it up the 0.135" on the rear side of the opening and be gtg? Not really set on a caliber yet if it makes any difference. But I am leaning towards either the 30-06AI as I have a few '06's and reloading components already or the 280AI as it looks like a fun caliber that has some nice reach.

Oh man you got a mill you're set!! I'll make you a deal on the choate I have up on the island and you can practice with it, and if it works out may be a better stock then what ya have now!

Re: Savage Accurate Mag DBM install?

I have no stock right now, so any stock would be better. But for that matter I don't have a barrel, barrel nut, optic mount, decent trigger, optic, mag for the DBM etc. I have a feeling its going to be a sloooooow build.

I'm right there with you and I've got its twin 110 barrel action on the way. Don't say the "S" word around here too much.

Stocade stocks has some decent prices on stocks. I've been looking around too. Never used one, couldn't tell you if they're any good or not.

Re: Savage Accurate Mag DBM install?

well, if anyone cares, got the DBM installed. Need to do a little mill work on the receiver to clear the mag once I am done with another project. But other than that, its a nice, tight and clean. Had to turn the screw heads a little to make them clear, then a little cold blue to make them look nice. Eventually I will probably get the whole mess cerakoted, but thats down the road when I have more $$ to throw at this mess. Also, need to do a little modification to the mag feed lips for the 280AI that I want to do this in. Other than that, I am really happy with how it turned out.

I need to get some cash to get a barrel soon. But I found a lathe I really want to buy for $1500 and am trying to figure out how to come up with that much $$$ right now.

Re: Savage Accurate Mag DBM install?

yeah, just passed up a mill at an auction that was worth about $3k that sold for $1k. Was thinking I could flip it on CL for some fun money, but my wife would have killed me so I opted not to.
