Savage actions...

I have noticed an overall negative outlook towards the savage action on this site, where in other sites they're viewed on par with rem. So the question is am I missing something about a fundamental flaw they have? They're not perfect out of the box i get that but they're priced competitively, well optioned for models and have good caliber selection. Rebarreling is easy, and stock trigger is better than most. So what is so wrong with them vs a Remington?

I am new to the hide and have just become confused when other places I frequent are more accepting of the brand.

I ran savage actions for quite a while.

They never really were problematic with the only real negative being ejection and aftermarket parts support being weak compared to Remington 700’s.

Accuracy was never a problem with them.

I have no skin in the game as I don't care either way. If there is something fundamentally wrong I just want to know. I have a savage and was going to drop a barrel in it but do not have to if it's never gonna be any good. I've got other guns to shoot. That said as it's just a plinking/varmint/for fun type gun if it's worth the $300 for another barrel I will...

The 9mm vs savage action dilemma could be sorted out with the new 9 Creedmoor cartridge.

Nope. They work just fine. I'm not a fan of the accu-trigger so mine has a rifle basix. The safety setup needs the tiniest bit of slack in the trigger which I can't notice with the accu-trigger, but is apparent as a bit of take-up with the older style.

The guys I see having trouble are the ones beating the shit out of the poor gun smashing the bolt off the stop like they're trying to rip the handle off. Cycle them like a normal person and you'll be just fine.

I have a couple Savages, great guns to cut your teeth on and decide if you like long range shooting enough to purchase or build a custom rifle. Go ahead and do a barrel swap, it’s fun if you enjoy tinkering. I think the main issue is that if you end up dropping a bunch of money into it (Chassis system, trigger, etc) you’ll probably end up way upside down if you decide to sell.

Well I wouldn't own any of those bike, I prefer something that is light, accelerates well, stops fast and turns well. . I've had a few savages, they shoot great, but you can't run the bolt on them like a custom action. Target accutrigger goes to a pound easily without having issues. I treated the blade like a two stage trigger, worked great. Probably why I like two stage triggers. . My original Savage LRP still shoots as good as my custom but it's not as refined. I've also had one action that has been a 6.5CM, .223, and 7 saum with a bolt head and barrel change.

I have shot a savage for a few years. I never had the issues others claim but i will admit that it lacks refinement.

It was better than the factory rem 700 i replaced it with. With that said i have a bighorn origin now and really enjoy the custom action life.
