Hello All -

I am thinking about building a bolt action rifle and am deciding on a base model to start with. I'm looking into the Savage rifles, particularly the 10FP series.

I went to the Savage website and they no longer list this model. I actually cannot find a model they list that has a heavy barrel without threading or a brake. Is this model still even in production? I can't seem to find it in stock anywhere and google search results point me to newer models listed on their website.

So the questions to all you pros out there are:

Does Savage still manufacture the 10FP?

If not, do they offer a comparable model now?

If so, does anyone know of a good place to get one online?

Thanks for the help. I tried searching but came up with few results. Apologize if this has been covered before.

Re: Savage Budget Rifles - 10FP

Don't know if they catalog the standard 10FP anymore.

You can check out the model 12 varmint series, it was basically the same thing but high lustre blue instead of the matte finish.
I am speaking of the base 12FV.

Re: Savage Budget Rifles - 10FP

The 10FP has been replaced with the 10FP-SR; the only difference is the threaded muzzle on -SR (suppressor ready) models.

There are likely many previous year model, non-threaded 10FPs available on Gunbroker and sitting on gun store shelves across the country.

Depending on how much you want to 'build' and what caliber/barrel you're looking for, you might look at a 12FV or even a Stevens 200.

Re: Savage Budget Rifles - 10FP

I'd recommend just buying someone's used Savage or stevens hunting rifle locally for $250-350. Add the stock, barrel and trigger of your choice, and rock and roll.
