After putting some rounds thru my new Savage center feed, I've decided that I really don't like the center feed nearly as much as the old stagger feed. It just doesn't feel as smooth, the rounds don't seem to go into the magazine as smoothly. Other than that the rifle functions just as I would expect from a Savage. The stagger feed seemed to work well so why did they change it? I wonder if I could remove the center feed magazine and put the box, spring, and follower from a stagger feed in it? Probably not, but it would be nice. My only other option would be buy a DBM stock and bottom metal which I can't afford!

Great. My Marlin scout build has already been driving me nuts with loading and feeding (and ejection) issues. Now I have a new FCP-K coming. Fuk me.

I don't have any problem what so ever with my centerfeed. Yes it is a bit harder to load but I don't have any feed issues with it what so ever. Might just be the rifle, or try pulling the stock and re-bedding and see if it fixes the issue. The mag can lift a bit when bedding which would cause problems.

Good Luck,
Merritt

Does anyone make a good DBM setup for savages? I've found an awesome deal on a 6.5x284 here town, but don't like the center feed blind magazine. After reading your problems, it seems like I'm not the only one.

CDI. He's a member here.

The CDI is sweet, plain and simple. It is some of the best money I have ever spent on gun stuff. It is a little tricky to get the mag in the first few times but once you get used to it no worries. Also, during a match with higher round counts it is nice to be able push that lever, load in a fresh mag and rock on.

Jeff, thanks for a solid product and for finally taking care of us Savage guys.

ETA: KSP446, your right the center feed is a pain.

It's not that I'm having feeding issues. It feeds just fine. It's the loading that's not a smooth as the old stagger feeds. Just wondered why they fixed something that wasn't broke!

Re: Savage center feed..... Don't like it!

Well wouldn't ya know it. My new FCP-K won't feed unless I remove the mag after every shot and pop it back in. I'm gonna pull everything apart and put it back together to see what I can do. Did anyone have problems initially with the mag not pushing the round up far enough to catch the lug?

Add me to the list that doesn't like the new center feed mag from Savage. Fuk'n fuk!

Hopefully it just needs to be used.

OK ... I like it now (I think). Took everything apart and gave it a more thorough scrubbing, oiled hell out of it, cycled about 50 rounds thru it. The last few mags thru it never once failed to pick up a round nor did any HP or SP nose into the feed ramp.

Cycles pretty smoothly all around now. Smooth action. Love the trigger .. clean and crisp about 3 pounds, maybe a tad less. And after shooting the 6 pound Marlin for about 500 rounds the weight of the FCPK and the muzzle brake make it feel like shooting an AR15.

Me likee.

I do agree, trying to load that centerfeed mag in a match is the pits, thats when I broke down and sprung for the DBM.
