As a low cost, entry level hunting rifle, it does quite a good job. Its action configuration is different from the Savage Model 110 based actions, so Savage aftermarket doodads probably won't fit, especially stocks and such.
If you're looking for something besides a baseline hunter, there are better Savage rifles, they just cost a little more.
A lot of folks have found out that Savage's Stevens 200 line is pretty equivalent (the can use the current 10/110 scope mounts) to the original, pre-Accue-stuff Savage actions, and they can be used as an economical donor action for a decent build.

Great point... It has everything to do with what you plan on doing with the rifle??? Do you just want a hunting rig to shoot game at 100-500yards??? IF so, no need to look further, but if you want to shoot further and more precisly, you might want to upgrade to the 110/116 Savage actions or a Remy...
Just think if your hunting you don't need a $3K rifle and $3K S&B on it to take a elk or deer at 400yards...
PRecision rifles can be great hunting rigs, but most plain jane hunting rifles cant be precision rifle.. Buy the right tool for the job, remember the multi-tools do many jobs sorta ok, but cant do any of them real well.
