I have a Model 10 with a 24 inch fluted barrel. I want to get it cut down to 20 inches and put on a surefire muzzle brake/adapter. Will the fact that it's fluted keep me from doing this? Anyones help would be very helpful.

Re: Savage Fluted Barrel

it depends on the depth of the flutes.

If the OD of the barrel is .800" and the flutes are .100" deep then you won't be able to thread it 5/8x24 as you will have to have .625" to cut the correct threads.

Also it looks kind of funny to cut a barrel off in the flutes but it has no ill effect on accuracy , I cut one way back once to see what kind of velocity drop i'd get and it actualy shot better
