I am setting up a practice rig to learn how to do range estimating etc. This is my first time doing this although I have shot a lot of guns I am wanting to build a .308 system in the future and thought I would learn on the .22 platform first.
Now my question is this I have done some research and read a few articleson here I am leaning towards this scope http://swfa.com/Falcon-Menace-4-14x44-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P47573.aspx Any advise on if it would be a good scope and experience with it? thanks

Re: savage fs-vr looking for a scope

I assume you mean the Savage FV-SR not FS-VR. That said, I have one and love it so far!

Mine sports a Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 in a set of Burris rings.

I don't have a ton of time behind this glass, but one of the first things I noticed was how much light it let in, and how clear it is. Its held zero very well through the 4-500 rounds its seen so far, as well as through a few very long rides in the back of the truck and on the back of an ATV.

While its obviously no $1000+ optic, Id say its pretty hard to beat for the money, I picked mine up for under $150. I understand your looking to learn how to range, and your probably wondering why the hell I'm talking about this scope. There is a second version called the APT, it has all the same specs as the above, but features exposed/externally adjustable turrets, as well as a MIL Dot reticle.

Unfortunately I cant even look at the optic you linked, as SWFA is blocked on my work computer but looking at the text of link; it looks similar in magnification, objective size and tube size.

Hope this helps.

Re: savage fs-vr looking for a scope

I purchased this http://www.hawkeoptics.com/hawke-sidewin...0x-mil-dot.html a couple of months ago and am very pleased with it.
It's sitting atop a Savage 93FVSS. I was having trouble getting down to a consistent 1MOA with the scope provided in the Savage kit (a Bushnell 3-9)...with groups hovering around 1.5-2".
More than a few people said this was okay for a .22WMR so I suffered for a year. Then someone mentioned that the Bushnell was a fixed 50yd parallax (my shooting is at 100m minimum).
I went for the Hawke after reading a number of reviews like this http://www.snipercentral.com/hawke416.htm
It is sharp, the controls are all positive and it feels good.
Am now shooting a consistent .75-1"MOA so I'm pretty darn happy.

Re: savage fs-vr looking for a scope

thanks but I wanted to be no more than 350 dollar range someone mentioned that BSA I have always heard they are crap but I might try it

Re: savage fs-vr looking for a scope

I like Weaver's 3-10x40 mil/mil scope, aka Larry Potterfield Special.

Re: savage fs-vr looking for a scope

I've got a Weaver GS Tactical 3-10x40 on my FVSR...great scope. With 20MOA of inserts in Burris Signature Zee Rings, I've got enough elevation from a 50yd zero with CCI SV to hit an 8" plate at 300yd.
