i"m wondering if i can put the knob in a vice, heat it up and bend it back towards the rear of the gun so it can make contact with my first knuckle, for easier cycleing. or will the heat make it to brittle after? thank you in advance.

Re: savage large boltknob

There is a little more to bending a bolt handle than that. You need to protect the bolt from heat to save it's temper often a heat sink is made to screw into the bolt to protect the cocking cam and strength of the threads.Any polished surface will carbonize and pit unless they are covered with some sort of protectant once the bolt handle is hot enough it will bend with a few whack's of a rawhide hammer or mallet of your choice.Look up De-carburizing paint or heat stop paste.
