What has the better stock? The TR says wood stock and the TRR-SR says synthetic, I looked at the two side by side in the shop and could really tell no difference. Is the mount the only diff? The TRR-SR they had didn't have the threaded barrel? The shop I'm looking at has them for within 20 dollars of each other.

Which should I get?

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

I just bought a TR-SR (Lypseys exclusive)
I wanted the TRR-SR on Savages website because I wanted the threaded barrel and bigger bolt knob and was going to throw the huge rail in the parts pile.
This is what i found
TR= Bigger knob, no rail, no threaded barrel
TRR-SR= has all three

When my dealer went to order mine we found that the TRR-SR wasn't available. He called his Savage rep and found out it hadn't been released yet and won't be released till mid to end of January which we think will be the SHOT SHOW.

This was all within the last 2 weeks

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

Thanks!

I called savage this morning and they told me that the stock material was the same on both guns.

I am going to go with the regular TR, I see no need for the 3 scope rails.

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

Maybe the stock material is the same, but I grabbed one in Cabelas the other day and it seemed significantly heaver and more sturdy than my TR. Could be me though.

I hope that this is an anomaly in the wood quality that they're using, but it is enough for me to think twice about getting one with the tacticool-painted wood. </div></div>

glad I didn't sell off my factory thumbhole stock after I got my tacticool.

Good call! I was getting ready to link that...haha!

Eww...the stock is painted wood? I am strongly considering one of these...either the savage or the cz 452 american threaded... from what I am seeing everyone replaces the scope base and ditches the tacticool rail and puts better bottom metal on these? I like the shape of the stock, but jeez its a $500 22LR ... and I gotta replace the tacticool rail? lol

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

One other option is the FV-SR with a threaded 16" barrel. Add a Tacticool stock and you are into it for around $400. I picked up a TR first and after deciding I needed a threaded barrel found the FV-SR and put it in the original TR stock. I'm very happy with the outcome and will put the TR action in a thumbhole stock of some sort most likekly.

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

Im not sure what the above link is about but judging from the comments its probably a broken tacticool stock from a TR. The breaking near the grip is an unfortunate weak spot in the stock design and something my FFL warned me about when I was looking at the TR's

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

I highly prefer the weight of my TR's wood stock vs. synthetic, I'm unsure where you're reading that the other is synthetic. Savage's website says the TRR's stock material is wood. TR was $405 shipped + FFL.

Re: Savage Mark ii TR and TRR-SR which has the better

I love my TR. Cant remember exactly what model # it was but it came with the tacticool stock and it was threaded. Mine did not come with the tri-rail. Interesting that so many different versions are out there. Got mine earlier this year.
