Seems like every other round gets stuck.

I cleaned the bolt and extractor thoroughly and it worked great for about 100 rounds.

Will cleaning the chamber help or do I need to replace the extractor?

Go to Savage Shooters and do a search. This topic has been covered ad nauseam there.

In short, there are several things that will help but I don't know of a cure. Some say cleaning will help, Some folks run 2 spring clips on their bolt, some change the angle on the extractor. I lube my ammo and have zero issues now.

I have a MK II TR that I had the same issues with shooting CCI SV. Cleaning and polishing didn’t work. Tired lubing some and it helped. Started shooting Wolf match extra and SK RM and it’ll run it without issues.

I put about 2000 rounds of CCI SV through it before it started to FTE.

SV is my favorite ammo. Kinda bummed out becuase I have a bunch of it stashed.

You may want to try a different lot of ammo. I got a lot of CCI SV that my MKii just wouldn’t extract. Grabbed a different lot number and no problems. Went back to the other ammo and it wouldn’t extract. I couldn’t see any difference in the ammo and I didn’t go as far as measuring it. I just shot the other ammo out of a 10/22 and it worked fine. One of life’s mysteries I guess.

This may sound crazy easy but make sure the extractor is on the right side. I did this ounce and it took a hundred or so rounds to show issues. After much deliberation I had reversed the shell holder and extractor. The shell holder should be on the inside and the extractor on the outside (the right).

Now I don't feel bad doing the same thing. Ejection was LETHARGIC booping the empties about 2-3 inches, sometimes not even making it out of the action. I figured it out eventually.....

As for the OP, I have the same issues, and after much frustration, bending back the C-Clip every detail bolt cleaning, or when the issue presents, is what I do. Frogpad's MKII page (under extraction issues) details some of the process, if you haven't figured it out by now.

Mine ejects 9 out of 10 rounds just fine. That 1? Pretty much always the *last* round in a mag. For some reason it doesn't quite clear the bolt face. Given that it's the last round, and usually falls free during the mag change, I haven't pursued it too much as of yet.

I have two MkII’s. One in 22lr varmint and one in 17M2 varmint, both in identical Boyd’s thumbhole laminated stocks. Both feed and eject flawlessly except for one 10rd after mkt mag that fails to feed 1st rd and got sent to the scrap heap. Ejection is perfect but I detail clean mine after every long range session or at the end of hunting season, whichever comes 1st. Snagged the mag release on the 22lr and bent it badly during an NRL22 match a couple years ago which required a field repair but that did not affect firearm function. Have tested many ammo brands in both. The 22 feeds on Wolf MX and Lapua CX and the 17 eats Hornady and Eley ammo. Taking the 17 out to feed on squirrels this morning.
