CAPS FOR SEEING , NOT SHOUTING

SO, I BOUGHT A BORE SCOPE FROM AMAZON FOR 80 BUCKS... GREAT BUY BTW... AND ALTHOUGH THE GUN IS STILL A TACK DRIVER, THE BORE IS IN BAD SHAPE... I DECIDED TO BUY A BARREL AND CALLED SAVAGE.... THEY WILL NOT SELL A BARREL TO YOU... OK BOUGHT A FAXON FIREARMS BARREL... FUNNY, ALL THE BARRELS I WANTED WERE - SOLD OUT—- AND WAS LUCKY TO GET THE FAXTON... I THINK...

HERE IS THE ISSUE, IVE LOOKED AT THE MSR10 GAS BLOCK MANY TIMES, BUT TONIGHT I SAW SOMETHING I DID NOT EXPECT... I AM CONCERNED WITH LINING UP THE BLOCK CORRECTLY , ON THE NEW BARREL, AND SAW THAT THE BLOCK HAS A TAB EXTENDED FROM THE BASE... THIS TAB FITS INTO A SLOT ON THE ORIGINAL SAVAGE BARREL, WHICH TAKES AWAY THE GUESS WORK ON POSITIONING THE GAS BLOCK... PRETTY NICE FEATURE. SO WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.... THE NEW BARREL IS NOT FLAT WHERE THE GAS BLOCK HAS TO GO... THERE IS A MACHINED EDGE |___. THE BARREL IS MACHINED DOWN TO .75 INCHES. THE GAS BLOCK HAS TO GO CLOSE TO THE EDGE AND I THINK THE TAB ON THE GAS BLOCK WILL PREVENT PROPPER PLACEMENT..... SO I EITHER HAVE TO HAVE A SLOT MACHINED INTH THE EDGE (LIKE THE ORIGINAL BARREL), OR CUT THE TAB OFF OF THE GAS BLOCK....

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Pics? I'd just buy a new gas block if it were mine. That way you can put it back to stock configuration if you ever decide to sell it.

If the barrel still shoots well, why spend money on a new one? How many rounds were through the factory barrel? Do you have experience or training/education as to what makes a bore “bad”? The barrel experiences heat and pressure far beyond what most people can even fathom. 55,000 PSI is no joke. It’s not going to look perfect. Bore scopes are typically used to diagnose changes in accuracy or whether a barrel is safe to shoot. If the barrel shoots fine and you have less than 10,000 rounds through it, I wouldn’t worry about that Faxon barrel. Keep it as a spare if you want. Otherwise, keep shooting the factory barrel.

Grind off the "alignment tab" on the GB.... or buy another brand Adj. GB and save the OEM Adj. GB to sell with the Savage Barrel.

Use a piece of dry hard spaghetti....with a smaller diameter piece of spaghetti than the gas port size ( loose fit so it can readily drop free ) ... insert into gas port, break the spaghetti of just long enough to fall to the bottom of the bore through the gas port while still reaching the top of the exterior of the barrel.... slide the gas block over the piece of spaghetti... invert the barrel, as in flip it over ... so the piece of spaghetti will fall into you gas blocks "hole"... loosely snug the set screws..... flip the barrel back over... run a cleaning rod down the bore, snapping off the bottom half ... retract the cleaning rod... push through again to remove the remaining portion.... collect the spaghetti "parts", just to make sure you have removed it all.

Sound silly ? Yup.... does it usually work ? Yup....

Or go buy the plastic version....http://uniquetek.com/product/T1511

Is that the Martha Stewart method?
