My LGS had a Savage MSR10 long range in 6mm Creedmoor for 1k, BNIB. I picked it up. Seemed a great deal besides it being in 6CM. It seems the 6CM is a barrel burner. Do you guys have any experience to barrel life with these nitrided carbon steel barrels in 6CM? Also, is the bolt and barrel DPMS style? I may rebarrel it to a 6.5 or 308. Savage is less than helpful when it comes to answering any questions. Thanks

There are several threads on the subject here on the hide with @Subwrx300 leading the charge. He had (sold it last time I checked) an MSR-10 hunter and had re-barreled his with both a Falkor and an Aero Precision. I had asked him the same question. Here is his response...

"Yes DPMS gen 1 will fit your rifle nothing special needed besides making sure they ship a matching gas tube with your barrel (pretty common) and getting an appropriate gas block. If getting a Dracos, it will come with both.

And the bolts are simply standard AR10 bolts; go with either the JP or Rubber City. Both are great.

But before you buy your barrel, I would STRONGLY encourage you to try take your existing barrel off. I've hear of a few people that were not able to get theirs off.

Good luck!"

Thank you for the information. How hard is the 6CM on barrels?
About the same as a .243win... no personal experience but have been going back a forth on a 6.5 or 6CM for almost a year now due to barrel life (and still have no clue) It seems the PRS guys are rebarreling around 900 to 1200 rounds through their stainless barrels with some guys not necessarily the PRS crowd saying they get 2 or 3k before needing to swap.

Testing this MSR10 308win rifle.
Gonna get Ase Utra DUAL 7.62 suppressor for this rifle.
This model has adjustable gas port.
Suppressor is made for semiauto rifles, so do i close the gas port?

I used the method Daivid Tubb's recommended (suppressed or un-suppressed) to tune the gas block on my MSR-10. Get the ammo you will be shooting and load the mag with one round, close the gas block all the way off and then open 4 clicks (YMMV), fire the weapon off a bench and see if the bolt locks back. If it doesn't continue by opening the gas block one click, fire round, and check for lock back. When it does lock back, load three rounds, and fire with the weapon shouldered while standing. If it cycles all three rounds and locks back add one click of gas (to allow for carbon, etc.) and call it good. If it doesn't, add a click at a time and repeat until it does. Should be good to go at that point! Un-suppressed my 6.5CM needed about 14 clicks to run right. Suppressed? I'm guessing half that but I'm still waiting for it to get out of jail...
