Savage MSR competition models!?!

I don't get it, you could put a Proof Research barrel in an Aero M5E1 receiver set with a JP BCG and premium everything for $1,000+ less.

I guess that's why I build instead of buy.

Wonder who they'll sponsor to run these guns in the comp games? They must have some REALLY good shooters lined up?
Patrick Kelley is their only brand spokesperson that could use this rifle that I'm aware of. He's very good but I don't think he's been out burning down matches like he used to.

This is kind of weird timing by Savage, 3 gun isn't the cool kids bandwagon sport it was 5 years ago and JP really seems to have the higher end 3 gun rifle market nailed down.

The specs are a bit vague for a rifle in this price range too. A two stage trigger? Not only is that unpopular in 3 gun but it doesn't say anything about what trigger it is or the pull weight.
Custom gas system sounds cool but what does that even mean?
Standard weight BCG I assume?
People spending $2500+ on a rifle want to know these things.

I agree 100%. I love my savage bolt actions. For the 700$ or so I’ve spent on them they shoot very well and we’re easy to build into solid shooters. Put a 3000$ price tag on them. I don’t think so. To many solid high end options right now.

Its kinda strange that savage has been the go to manufacture of barrel nut rifles forever and are just now, (2 yrs.) getting into the blackguns?
A lot of companies that get boughtout by big corporations don't really do so well but ATK seems to be after the market!
We'll see?

They are trying to step up to the plate from where they were just a few years ago. Maybe to fast, I don't know?

With their money they can get top shooters in the games. And if they're serious or not it's all a right off tax wise. And the shooting world is just getting bigger!

Agreed. As the owner of an MSR10 Hunter, I'm surprised they when this direction. It's heavier (9lbs vs 8lb for Hunter with 18" steel barrel), only in .308, and still comes with cheap slider (could be wrong but it looks awfully similar to the Blackhawk my rifle came with.)

Buy a Hunter model ($1100) add the Proof barrel ($900) and any stock ($50-$200) and you save 1-2lbs, have any caliber Proof makes plus save $1000+ dollars?! Even with the fancy colored mag well extension, safety and castle nut, it's WAAAYYY over priced for comparable build. Unless you need a side charging upper.

Color me confused on this decision by Savage. At the very least, choose weight savings (standard charging handle upper) or precision (offer 6.5 cm or 6CM etc) but a heavier than normal 308? ??

Guess that's where the marketing team got involved.
