Anyone have any experience with one? Are they much more durable and higher quality than a stock Savage action?

Basically looking to build a semi-custom .260 on an XLR chassis and an undecided barrel. This'll be for tactical-comps.

FYI: I am also piecing together a custom Remmy in .308. Is it wrong to have both?

The action is fine. I just hate the target accutrigger. I replaces it with a standard accutrigger. I like the new model 12
long range precision in the HS stock. Pretty much just mount a scope and shoot it.

Re: Savage Precision Target Action (PTA)

I have a Savage Target action that came off a Savage 12 F Class. I think the target actions are more durable, with the larger action frame and larger tread, but I don't think its any more accurate than a regular Savage action.

There's been several threads about this in SavageShooter forum, and they seem to have the same consensus.

For my .260 build, I went with a used Savage Stevens action.

By the way, for a barrel, I don't think there's better barrel for the money than the CBI barrels Jim @ NSS sells. You'll find him on the SavageShooter forum.

Re: Savage Precision Target Action (PTA)

They are way more durable. They are a single shot with a lot more metal involved. Standard savage actions don't like over 28inch barrels much. These have no problems with them. The target accutrigger isn't bad, and is easily replaceable. They are great for the 30 inch + barrel. If you want a shorter barrel, get a standard savage or stevens action as they will do just fine. Here is an article for you from 6mmbr.com for thought. Enjoy.

Re: Savage Precision Target Action (PTA)

i initially bought the Savage 12 target gun in 6.5x284 aand when the barrel went south at around 800 shots. I sold off the F-class stock and bought a Kreiger 6.5mm barrel in HV and had it chambered in 6.5x47Lap.

so far, its the most accurate gun i have. I really like the target actions, with that said i only wish Jewell cwould make a trigger for them.

good luck
