Local academy has the savage/Stevens 200 in 270 or 7-08 for $179. For action only and a budget build is this a good buy at this price?

awesome price, where are you located? I've got to go check my local stores here for the same deal. 7mm-08 would build another good 308 loaner rifle.

Heck yes.
180 for the rifle.
Sell barrel and stock for 50 total. So now you have an action for 130.
Add custom barrel 300.00
B&C stock 220.00
SS in 10 or 16x with rings and base for 420.00
That's a tack driver for 1020.00

In Wichita falls. Another guy said he picked one up in Houston so I guess mine is not the only place at this price. I may go get 2 lol

Great price for the rifle. Its $100 less than what I paid for mine, shoots great. Can't wait to get the stock back from CDI so I can get out again. You'll love it, very inexpensive for a good rifle and when you're done building it like Merritt said it will be a tack driver.

I'm going to build a 243 out of this 7-08.
I'd offer to ship you one but after the cost of shipping, tax and ffl fee I don't see it being that good of a deal.

Well if you are not legally able to own a firearm I would say it would be a straw purchase.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's how they interpret the idea. You're buying it for the express purpose of sending it off to someone else, whether or not I go through an FFL. At least, that's what I've been told by the Lansdale office by me.
I do appreciate the offer but the $50 isn't worth me risking something like this.

I bought a .270 at the Academy in Spring, TX for $179. The manager told me that this price is good until 1/29.
