Savage TR?

Re: Savage TR?

I am trying to get one of the SAVAGE Mark 2 TRSR...

Threaded barrel heavy... with tactical type stock in 22LR...

Hard part is finding distributors with them in stock...

I have heard they ARE GREAT shooters.

Matt.

Re: Savage TR?

Mine is a great shooter. At 50 yards, its a tackdriver. Out to 175 yards or so, I pinged a steel piggy regularly. I was holding out for a Sako, I'm really glad I fell into this one.

Re: Savage TR?

i like my TR 22LR. It is well built & comfortable to shoot. The accuracy is not as good as my MKII FV yet, but it's getting better with use. I use CCI Mini Mag ammo mostly, because I can buy it local. Subsonic ammo seems to be a little better in the TR than the MKII. I recently bought a TR 17HMR & with only a few hundred rounds it is working good.

Re: Savage TR?

I've been looking for one of these locally and saw that it went on sale at Cabelas for $429 today. Only their model has a compensator and a different scope base than every other TR or TRR I've seen. Budsgunshop had the rifle for $368 about two weeks ago but now that it jumped back up to $399 again, $429 local isn't bad at all. I'm going to check it out today and if that compensator threads off, I'm set with my Tac-65 and I'll have a new trainer

Love it mate!

I hope to one day update the optics on my rimfire... that USO looks very nice on that 22

Re: Savage TR?

My daughter stole mine. Ahe loves shooting the antlers on our deer target which is at 125 yards. She started out shooting the body, then the ears and nose, now she shoots the points. It loves Wolf match. Now I have to buy another.

Re: Savage TR?

Not sure I even need to comment now.

By far and away mine is the best 22 I have ever owned. Drives tacks, perhaps even pinheads, at 50 yards. I regularly shoot squeaks out to 150 yards.

I would highly recommend one to anyone that is interested in an accurate trainer/plinker/accurate 22lr.
Mine is topped with a Tasco Varmint 2.5-10 mil-dot. Excellent combo. Below is 6 rounds at 50 yards.

Re: Savage TR?

Oh yes, great accuracy out of these guns. Not sure how they do it but they do....mine shoots one hole at 25yards and anywhere from 0.5"-0.8" at 50yards with crap ammo off a bipod. Still waiting for my match stuff to arrive so I can really see what this rifle will do. Have only had it out twice so far.

At the end of the day I believe the shooter will be limiting factor in these rifles. (unless you are using some fancy rifle rest or vice and shooting on a calm day)

Re: Savage TR?

Vman, that is not a flier. That is a spider that I shot. Blew the legs clean the body. Had to be patient for him to get close enough to the previous shots so I did not totally blow the group.

That group is shot with Federal Eagle ammo. Bulk box. Rifle LOVES it.

Re: Savage TR?

Tried some SK Standard Plus and some Rifle Match in my TR...shoots 5 shot 50yd groups like Orge above (minus the spider flier) with the standard plus. Rifle Match is a little bigger but not much.

I was surprised at the difference quality ammo can make.
