SBR Barrel Length question

Thinking of cutting my barrel back to 16 or so. Where exactly am I measuring from and how exact does the measurement need to be? Please humor me on this one.

what are the consequences of a measurement of 15.75 and its not registered as an SBR?

If it's under 16" it's all the same, it doesn't matter how much less than 16".

It's a felony.

the only way recognized by the ATF to measure a barrel is,
#1 remove everything that is not permaneantly attached to the barrel
#2 close bolt on empty chamber and slide a rod down the barrel.
#3 measure from the bolt face to the end of barrel.
conclusion, it better be over 16 inch. 16.02 is not an SBR, 15.99 is
be carefull, also, I would strongly recommand you get your SBR stamp before cutting.

There really is no leeway in the 16" number without getting the tax stamp. Those guys are pretty serious about their jobs. I'm pretty sure it is measured from the breech of the barrel, but I would not have one shorter than 16 from the recoil lug.

just making sure it wasn't from action edge to end of barrel.

Its cut already, just making sure I was legal and to be clear the barrel length is greater than 16".

not marreid but they better leave my dog alone.
