Case anyone was wondering, Ceracote still smells like a nail salon when machined. Made some small changes so I was being a pussy with the rapid rates in some spots. Got all my tools prestaged finally so that the lag on tool changes goes away. Nice to have total control over this with making our own release as well.

Chad, I can't tell from the video. Are your bolt-stops fully round on the ends (like the Lawton style) or rounded rectangle (like the Defiance style)? It looks like you're making your first cut with a single slot, but at the end, that tiny endmill might be cutting and cleaning up the corners.

Ours are .250" with a full radius. I open the receiver to .255" for Cerakote or whatever. The big "thing" on this was getting the pin slot in such a way that the part loads on the receiver instead of the pin. The 1/16 em is just used to sharpen up the internal corners where the window is. I just like that look better than the big radius.

When first starting out on these, I clamped an action vertically, hung weights off the bolt, then drove the pin out of the receiver. The bolt didn't fall out and the SBR didn't move. That's the key in this piece, ensuring the pin does not experience any of the impact loading. Its merely there to keep the part from falling out and to provide a fulcrum.

I had a whole lotta guys fussing about that from others years back. They'd given up on actions that use them due to the failures. Thankfully, that seems to be a thing of the past for most. Don't hear to much about it anymore.

I quit using the Lawton style for that very reason. Racking the bolt back forcefully could shear or, worse, bend the pin, making it impossible to drive back out (ask me how I know). The Defiance style has a slightly slotted hole allowing it to slip back and make contact with the receiver before making contact with the pin.
