Suppressors SBR Question

Re: SBR Question

The only difference is if you cobble together one yourself, then it goes on a form 1 and you have to engrave your name (or your trust name) and the city/state you are in since you are the "manufacturer", but that is not really a big deal. A factory SBR, such as a Colt 6933, would go on a form 4, same as a suppressor. The $200 is the same regardless.

Re: SBR Question

If I am just changing barrels on my LMT CQB will I use the serial number of that lower for the application? Is engraving required before application of after approval? I am getting ready to submit for another suppressor and think I might as well send in an SBR app at the same time.

Re: SBR Question

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of the engraving debate?

I keep hearing that you do not have to engrave the lower if it was manufactured by XYZ company as you are not "manufacturing" but "assembling" the modular components of the AR. Then I hear others that get it engraved.

For clarity in this instance say turning an operational pistol into and SBR.

Cheers,

Doc

Re: SBR Question

No offense, but if folks would read, there would be little debate. It's all here, not easy, but it's not hiding (OK, it IS hiding just a little).

Short answer:

If a firearm was manufactured by A Type 10 FFL, Class 2 SOT manufacturer as a SBR, no engraving by you as it will already have the manufactures information engraved.

If you modify a firearm then YOU are the maker (not manufacturer) and you'll need to mark the item with the following information...

"(i) The model, if such designation
has been made;
(ii) The caliber or gauge;
(iii) Your name (or recognized
abbreviation) and also,
when applicable, the name of
the foreign manufacturer or
maker;
(iv) In the case of a domestically
made firearm, the city
and State (or recognized abbreviation
thereof) where you
as the manufacturer maintain
your place of business, or
where you, as the maker, made
the firearm."

You could certainly start with a pistol but there is no advantage as making a pistol into a rifle is not an issue. It's when you make that rifle in to an SBR that the BATFE gets interested.

Re: SBR Question

it is the same process but you do mail a Form 1 and a Form 4 to two different locations, so i guess technically, they may be a few days to a week apart, but it's not going to be anything dramatic. i've heard people say, "oh, i got my Form 1 back in a month, Form 1's are faster" no, it's not true, that's a freak coincidence, they should take the same amount of time, which currently looks like 5 months.
