Rifle Scopes Schmidt & Bender questions

I want an optic to to give my carbines (5.56) at least 500. With super accuracy I will take it with me next deployment i have experience with and eotech and have the gen 3 magnifier on order. my question. is the schmidt & bender 1-4 short dot worth it. and I dont mean money wise i could careless about the money. Does this optic perform? what are the negatives
or alternatives again I dont care if the glass costs 6 grand I want the best optic for up close( reflex sight) and distance if any one has experience with Schmidt or a viable alternative please let me know i want the best.
and if the optic isn't out by november of this year please dont mention it i want a lot of time with it before i go. thank you

SWFA 1-4x, SWFA 1-6x, Vortex PST 1-4x, Votex Razor 1-4x...


IMHO all are a better buy that the S&B... the short dot was cool, when it was the only option...now it's just over priced as far as I'm concerned.

You'd have the same Schott sourced glass like S&B and it would have the same coatings as Zeiss.

Worth it? Depends on what worth it means to you and what you're capable of.

I have taken it to a Super Dave class and been as fast or faster than anyone with an RDS. On the other hand some folks claim it isn't as fast as an RDS since it is not parallax free. In order to be that fast you need to have your cheek weld grooved - first time, every time.

I have used it to range my steel IPSC from 200 to 900; I never dial for wind on any rifle unless there are at least 4 mils of wind, I have used the SD to shoot hold offs and hold overs out to 1k - a lot (several K rounds). However many complain that the reticle is too small and the lines too course to effectively fractionalize.

Some folks complain about the blue tint.

Mine has been dropped. I have tumbled down hills several times with it. It has never failed. It has been on and off the rifle many times. I have stacked a PVS14 behind it and shot at night.

If I only got one - it'd be the one.

Not that Its a show stopper but are there any variable scopes like the short dot with that are parallax free?

I have been shooting Red dots my entire life does the parallax really throw your shoot if your cheek weld sucks?

I have a short dot ive been using for years.IMO no other 1-4 comes close even today. Its superior optically and its still the only one with a REAL daylight red dot. Ive owned NSX 1-4,USO SN4 and Elcan specter 1-4 and sold them all and kept the short dot. Everyone claims true 1x but i find it comical the 1.1 of the short dot is optically better than all of them. Yes its expensive but its worth it too me.

I think the close second is the elcan specter DR 1-4.

With respect to parallax - it is no different than with your bolt gun, the further the distance and the more out of position your head is, the more inaccurate the shot. If one has a really bad cheek weld it is possible that they would not see the dot when they first mount the gun.

I am not aware of any parallax free 1-4 / 1-6 out there (in fact I don't know that it is possible to make them this way). You're gonna have this with anything. Ok.. dry fire includes mounting the gun, swing to 2 or 3 targets, mag change, back to those same 2 or 3 targets. 5 minutes a day for a year.... not only will your cheek weld be 100%, so will your mag changes.

I have had a USO 1-4, and have seen a NF... It is the true daylight vis dot and the 1x on the S&B that sets it apart.
