Looking at some scopes, I see that some are fixed powers
Specifically the bushnell 10 power My question is this, it says that it (resets to zero) so let me get this straight.

I can sight in at 100 yards and use the top adj knob to add clicks and say shoot 400 yards? then I just hold dead on?

Then I can push a button on top or count back the clicks to get back to 100 yard zero?

So theoretically I could find the drop and know how many clicks to put on say a varmint after ranging it and hold dead on??? Even tho it's a mil dot ret?

Thanks in advance.

Re: School me on scopes

Your sense of understanding is heading in the right direction

For the most part all high end scopes kind of work the same – you will find your zero and then you will set your top or vertical turret in a way that from there on forward you can look at your drop charts click and dial up so your on at 400 and then as you said return back to your original zero or reset for another yardage.

Except, archery is more expensive in the long run over rifles and shooting.
Rifles have a cost up front and then your set once your build is done, you pick up your rifle 2 months later and it will do exactly what its supposed to,

Archery seems to always nickel and dime you, it seems you always have to update your bow, arrows, release, sight and so forth and with that you always have to be practicing.

Shooting rifles is more fun and cheaper in the big picture.

Just my opinion

Re: School me on scopes

So on the tactical style scopes you still have to count your clicks and just reverse that to regain zero right?

The reason I say archery is cheaper, I can buy a dozen arrows and build them for say 125 bucks, I can shoot them over and over and over and over..... you get the point. As for rifles/handguns, 30 dollars, 30 dollars, 30 dollars.... you get my point

You don' have to count clicks. If your dope is 3.4, dial to 3.4. When done, back to zero.

Any hobby will nickel and dime you if you allow it to happen.

If you shoot beyond 200-300 yards and/or for itty bitty groups you better be practicing regularly as well. Shooting well is a perishable skill, be it archery, handgun, shotgun or rifle.
