Rifle Scopes Scope and base for savage 17hmr

Looking for some input on a scope and base for a savage 93r17 tr. it comes with stock 2 piece mount don't know if that's good enough to get me to 100 yards or if I need to replace with a higher moa.

Also looking for some input on a scope. Was looking into the vortex viper series, midways weaver grand slam, wanting to keep it about $300 or less. This will be mainly for small game and fun. As far as reticlebid like either a bdc, or mildot i think. Don't think I'll be taking it past 80-100 yards that's kind of stretching it as it is I think.

Personally I think the Diamondback 4-12x40 would be a good fit. The 6.5-20x44 Viper (http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/vortex.pl?page=vortexviper6-20x44) at Cameraland is a heck of a deal but might be a little overkill for your intended use but the one for $299 only comes in the wide plex.

Currently running an EGW 20MOA base and Vortex Viper HS 5-15x on my rimfire trainer - very happy with both.

been reading a lot of people running 20-25 moa base. would it be safe to say i need to replace the stock 2 piece base?

If you're only shooting out to 100yds with a .17HMR, the stock 0 MOA two-piece scope base will work just fine. It only takes about 1.2 mil (4 MOA) of additional elevation on my .22LR to go from 25yds to 100yds.
