Is there a protective coating product out there for a scope’s bell and/or sunshade? Something that doesn't look like a bad tape job. Just wondering out loud.

Coban, elastic medical gauze. Black, colors, camo, etc on Amazon. Black can be found in sports section at Wal-Mart. Stays on, adheres to itself, and won't leave sticky residue when removed. Cheap scope protection.
I agree with @Danattherock i use a similar product in black works very well. Self adhering athletic tape off amazon.

Yep looks like the same stuff, goes by different names. It's very durable and I mostly change it after shooting a match in the rain, allowing the scope to dry upon removal.
I have mine covered in Talon Grip. Bit of a pain cutting the pieces but it stays on and provides good grip as well as protection.
