scope for 22lr

Re: scope for 22lr

What are you doing with the gun?

For hunting / field use...yes. For targets...I dunno, I hunt and use my rifle in the field, but I reckon as long as you have an adjustable aperture, 24x would help you get on the bullseye.

Re: scope for 22lr

imo depends on what you are doing, benchrest ok, everything else i think it's not needed and a hinderance - that is if it is a fixed power. if a variable (6-24 ish) i like the option of increasing magnification at longer ranges or to use the mounted optic as a sort of spotting scope.

i tend to "lose" the target as the FOV is super narrow at 50 on 20+X, and on hot days the mirage is going to kill your view with a fixed high power - that bullseye will dance around like fred astaire.

either way, if you go with 20/24x scope @ 50, make sure it has an adjustable objective to focus in on that shorter distance.

Re: scope for 22lr

The 4-12x adj. objective Bushnell is quite good. Holds up to spring powered air rifle recoil, so it is reasonably tough. Mine is very clear and adequate for .22LR until you get into REAL benchrest stuff...which the H&R Model 12 isn't. JMHO

Re: scope for 22lr

The problem with a scope like the bushnell is mounting it to a H&R model 12 because the reciever is not drilled and tapped for a scope and I was looking for an older unertl or redfield model 32oo type scope.
