New to the web site and I have read a the optic FAQ link and a few other reviews..

Right now I have a Aimpoint Micro H-1 on the Rifle and want to go with optics. I use the rifle mostly for 100-200 yard range time and deer hutning when the shot is 150 yards and closer it is my woods gun.
Question I'm torn between a 3-9 or a 1-4 optic?
I like the 3-9 for light gathering but I do not like the actual size of the optic riding on the rail at 12-13 inches.
The 1-4 is a good fit as 4 power will most likley be all you ever need but will a 24mm objective collect enough light for a huntng optic?
Leading towards the SS 3-9X42 but like I said at 13 inches long and 19 oz it might be too big for a 16" carbine. Budjet is $400-$600. I would love the NF NXS Compact 2.5-10X32 but $1300 scope on a rifle that is only a 1.5" MOA at 100yards does not warrant that expensive of an optic.
Thanks for your help!!

Re: Scope for .308 AR Carbine--PLEASE HELP

Find a 3-9 scope you like and invest in a quick detach mount. That way you can attach the scope for hunting and the Aimpoint for range time. And as for the 24mm IMHO I don't think it would gather enough light either. Some low end 40mm scopes won't do that so it might be worth asking some hunting buddies to look through their scopes at dawn/dusk and see if they will work for you. Keep you from having to buy a scope twice instead of once.

Hopefully you can find one that will work for you.

Millett offers their Designated Marksman Scope that might work but it is limited by the 24mm tube. But on the bright side it goes for about $240.00 or less with a little looking. I have a TRS on my LR-308 24" and I love it...but it is a huge scope!

This is probably what I plan to do.....with a larue mount this can be converted to a carbine in a flash...

Re: Scope for .308 AR Carbine--PLEASE HELP

I run a SS 3x9x42 and an Eotech 512 on my 16" carbine. Have them both mounted in GG&G QD mounts. Works like a charm.

The SS 3x9 works great. Yes, it's pushing the limit on how big you want to go on a carbine, but I love the scope. I wouldn't trade it for anything else in it's price range or even double. Sure a Nightforce would be nice, but I'm a perfectly happy with the SS - FFP, mil dot, and great warranty. Works for me!

We'll make you a helluva good deal on a SS and BOBRO combo.

Re: Scope for .308 AR Carbine--PLEASE HELP

Go with your gut. I have two if the SWFA SS 3-9X42 and could not be more pleased. One is on a 16" LMT MWS and does not look out of place. I've used that BOBro mount mentioned above and it is excellent. The latch has a lock that must be depressed before you can flip the lever. No snag and drop scenario with that design.
