Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

I personally have a zeiss conquest 6.5-20 with the rapid z 1000 reticle. As I'm not a great shot nor that bright and I tend get lost turning turrets it makes it easier for me to shoot longer ranges with the holdovers. I really like the glass, very clear.

Are you serious? I think their is at least six scopes way better than leupold.
For six hundred you can be at the same quality. Leupold is going to have to catch up with the market of better scopes for less money.

Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

i've got an 8.5 - 25. the low end is too high for this type of rifle. it's not going to be a .25 moa rifle, i find that a 15x top end that i've got on my nightforce is plenty for the gas gun. that said, the 5.5 - 22x nighforce is mighty tempting.

And its under $800

Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

As with everything else said on this forum, its just about all mater of opinion especially in optics talk. Of the two you mentioned, I'd take the 6.5x20 range. I have the MK4 and its very good, cant think of a $600 scope I'd trade it for but maybee there is one I hav'nt looked through yet. Just as a matter of fact, I've looked through a bunch in that range. Oh, and NO, I wont take $600 for it.

okie

Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

I have a Zeiss w/ the Rapid Z-1000 and I like it but it is not the best for Tactical shooting and at this time it sits on an LR-308 24”. I use this gun for mainly shooting steel.

I would recommend the 6.5-20x50mm Mark For w/ the TMR reticle. I really like the TMR Mil Line over the dots.

If we can be of help in getting any scope rings and so feel free to ask.

Thanks for your time.

Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

I have the 8.5 x 25 on my LR 308. For ta@ctical shooting the smaller fov is a pain for spotting hits at 600 or less. My 243 is getting a 6.5 x 20. I'll put a 25 on my edge because it'll be my mile gun where the fov and higher mag are welcome.

Short answer, get the 6.5 x 20 mk 4.

I have this exact same set up for the same reason, and it works realy well. Real nice glass in the Zeiss. Good price too.

Re: scope for dpms lr308 24"ss bull

6.5-20 is leupold's best offering for something like this.
what you can get in a Nightforce, for a little more money, is a 5.5-22x (better on the low and high),
TMR/MLR reticle (same),
mil turrets (better with a mil based reticle, in my opinion),
in a more robust scope (better),
and a zero stop (don't have one yet, but I wish I did).
I can't make myself buy one of the less expensive scopes for a "tactical" rifle. Too many unknowns, in my opinion.
