what scope would be a good choice for the socom 16 using the rail forward of the receiver ? I would like a 1-4x or something close I have a red dot on it now.

Re: scope for socom 16

If you are mounting on the front rail you are very limited to scopes that are SCOUT scopes. Leupold makes one and Burris makes one they are both fixed power http://swfa.com/Burris-275x20-Scout-Scope-P2020.aspx

It's those or a red dot. While some of the pistol scopes will probably work some will not have the right eye relief. If you need more scope than those you are really opening a can of worms because you have to mount off the side of the reciever and need a cheekpiece or there are some custom stocks that will get you there also but not cheap.

Re: scope for socom 16

Leatherwood makes a scout scope as well, $186 at SWFA.
The Burris is supposed to be better, and the Leupy more better

You could also put a regular scope mount on it and mount a regular scope like an SN4
