Scope issues with my PSL

Getting old sucks. That 4x IOR scope that came with my PSL just doesn't have enough magnification for my eyes beyond about 300m, so I've been trying to get a Weaver 6-24x42 to mount and zero.

The first mount was a Kalinka high dual-rail with extra-short rings, and I couldn't get the scope to zero. Flat out of adjustment at 100 yards, and still 18" low.

Mount is currently the Kalinka low dual-rail. Rings are Weaver extra-high. I'm still almost out of adjustment (about 4 clicks from the stop, clicks are 1/8moa), but at least it's on the same silhouette now... sometimes.

The new problem is, the scope isn't staying on zero. I battle-zero'd at 20m, should have been dead-on at 200. I was hitting about 12" high at 200.

I don't have any problems other than not enough magnification with the 4x IOR, and hold about 1.5 MOA with it.

Is that quick-change mount too loose, or is the big Weaver just too much mass?

I'm about ready to go for a 4-16x on the tall mount, or suck up the dollars for an 8x POSP.

Any suggestions?
