Just wondering what possible ill-effects could come from mounting a scope kinda high. I just mounted up a new scope and the way i have it set up, the scope sits pretty dang high. Whats the worst that can come of this? I just dont want to invest the time if im just going to tear it apart and get a set of low rings.

If stockweld is not muscularly relaxed, with the full weight of the head on the stock, for a good chipmunk roll, parallax error, as well as predictable recoil will be issues. Of course, if the butt stock has an adjustable comb/butt these issues will be controllable.

Re: Scope mounting height...

Thanks for all the info so far, i will get some pics up later today. As far as the the specs, they are as follows. A Sako 691 action, then i used Burris xtb picatinny bases on top of the dovetail, then medium Burris xtr rings with a Burris xtr 6-24x30 scope.
I dont know she looks pretty dang high no me

Re: Scope mounting height...

Looks a little high but not overly so. Can you get down and be comfortable behind the scope like Sterling was mentioning? If you can then shoot away but if not I would buy a set of low rings.

Re: Scope mounting height...

Take a look at Seekins rings....they will get that bell as close to the shank as possible with those bases...lower is better with a fixed cheek piece. Glens stuff is top notch!!
