I have an R700 I am trying to mount a PH 3-15 on. I locked the rifle down on a bench rest, screwed down a Seekin's 20 moa scope base and checked level.
Without getting in to every little detail, I was wondering on something. I got some beautiful Seekin's 4/6 rings in the mail and they came with a cute little alan wrench.
I don't have a torque wrench here. I mounted my scope using that alan wrench and attempted to zero my rifle. I shot 1/2 a box off and took the rifle home before giving up on zeroing. I took off took the rings and noticed there is a slight dent in something. I can't tell if it's the finish or the actual scope itself. Either way I can tell it's nothing major. Barely noticeable by eye.
Here is my situation / option's:
The loco'al smith here in town wants $40 for 15 minutes tops of work. Maybe he has a 1 hour min. of work either way i'm not paying that.
I can't find a damn torque wrench anywhere that is available in inch lbs. I have called and driven to several places with no luck.
I am sure someone is going to toss some food at me in here and hope they do. But I am not going to shoot this rifle anymore until it's mounted propperly. I am obviously doing something wrong when using that alan key. I have pretty strong hands and I problably tightened down the one side to much and created that pinch point.
I guess it's good I didn't shoot much more than I did. I suppose that little dent/blemish could be a lot worse than it actually is.
Insight appreciated,
-Ms
