I know this is almost entirely opinion, but I'm still curious...for mounting a Nightforce 1-4 NXS on an AR, do you like Nightforce 1-piece alumunim/titanium rings (unimount) or Larue Tactical 1-piece?

The below picture is my choice but you certainly can't go wrong with either an offering from Mark Larue or the NF Uni-Mount.

If you plan to have back-up iron sights, having a QD scope mount would be an advantage. If the NF is the only sighting tool though, then I'd bolt it down as securely as possible.

I actually went the cheap route with my NF and got some QD Leupold rings. The only time the scope will come off is if it is broken, but I'm still in the fight. I don't need LaRue repeatability for every platform.

Also, if you haven't seen this yet (below) it is worth your time;

Frankly my favorite for a 1-4x application is the JP Enterprises single piece mount. Provides a very repeatable torx screw mount (less to snag on your hands when on the move or transitions), the proper sight height, and a low profile angled front that allows your hands to shimmy underneath without injury (my main complaint about the Larue which had a sharp angular edge).

If you need QD for BUIS, then this won't work. My $.02 on that though is that if I lose my batteries, I still have a static crosshair to work with so I go sans BUIS on 1-4x scoped rifles. Also saves weight.

Unless of course you also lose your crosshairs.

Get the Larue and always run BUIS just in the event you will need them, its better to never need then to not have in a time of need. Larue for the mount, troy for the BUIS.

Re: Scope mounting opinions for AR platform...

I hated paying $215 for my first LaRue mount but after it arrived in that LaRue taped box with a bunch of free goodies/swag I was a little happier. Once I got to the range, tested it out, realized how well built it was, and saw how well it repeated zero I was sold. I don't plan on buying any mounts besides LaRue. No they're not cheap but yes they are worth it.

Even if you try it out for a few months and don't like it, they have excellent resale value! This is because they are rarely sold, for good reason.
