I have a Rem 5R and a new Weaver Tactical scope (EDMR ret.). So now I need to mount this together.
1) how do you ensure the horizontal line on the reticule is truly horizontal when mounted?
2) what torque specs do you use for the rings?
3) what in/lb torque wrench should i buy to pull this off?

i've had this gun for 3 years and have not shot it yet. i really need to get this scope mounted. any advice is greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance

Re: Scope mountining

A plum bob helps to tell you if your reticle is plum or not. I think most reticles lean because our heads lean into the stock.

Some people are surprised when they look at a plum bob through their scope. The plum bob string looks like it leans.... Which it does not.

Re: Scope mountining

what I've done is use a gun vice, place a spirit level on top of the scope base and get the thing level. Then using a plumb bob, or some other straight edge, sight down and align as necessary.

If you have good rigs that are properly aligned you don't have to worry about this but some rings will turn the scope as you tighten them down. So, I look through the scope as it's being tightened....lapping helps eliminate this.
