Rifle Scopes Scope recommendations

My brother is looking for a new hunting scope for his new Bergara rifle.

He was looking at a Zeiss Conquest HD5 3-15x42 for $699.

I looked at it and saw that is was discontinued and has a 1 inch tube and I figured there would be better options out there at that price point.

I found a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 for $691. Which I think is a better scope. Am I right? Am I looking in the right direction?

What would you suggest he get around the $700 price point?

I was at cabelas themother day looking for a scope for my 6.5 b14 hmr. I looked at the viper pst gen2 the mightforce scopes and leupold. Because I do a lot of hunting I opted for the vx-6hd 3-18x44. The clarity and brightness of the leupold was better than the vortex in my eyes and the vx-5hd was just the same. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I’ve had that scope with 50mm and the z800 reticle on my 300 Weatherby for a few years now and love it. Much nicer and easier to use than the VX6 based on experience. When you have the trajectory matched to your load it is excellent all the way out to 800 yards. It is my elk gun and gets dragged through the brush enough that I need to replace the BC caps annually.
Took a big cow at 550 yards 2 rounds had the same exit hole.

the VX-5HD is an awesome scope. Same glass/coating as the VX-6HD but without all the bells and whistles. It just won the optic of the year from guns and ammo as well.
