Rifle Scopes Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Hey all...I finally took the plunge and purchased the optics for my Remington 700 SPS .308...
The scope I went with (although I've always considered myself a Bushnell fan) is the Weaver Tactical 4-20x50mm Mil Dot 30mm Rifle Scope purchased from Optics Planet. I searched far and wide trying to balance price and quality and I heard nothing but excellent reviews on this scope... So I held my breath and clicked "Add to Cart" and promptly paid for it before I changed my mind (as I had done 6 or 7 times already).

Now that I have finally purchased the scope I wanted I was wondering what I should do in terms of scope rings. I have a set of standard Weaver 30mm low scope rings for now, but anyone have any suggestions on what rings I should go with ? I'm currently using a Murphy Precision 20 MOA Stainless Steel scope mount.

Thanks !

Scott

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

I have that same scope and have been very impressed with its quality. For rings, I have TPS holding it on right now. They are a good value ring and I dont plan on replacing them. I own 5 sets of them and all have been great quality. However, I do prefer Seekins rings over anything else I have tried. Seekins would probably be my first choice.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

As a practical matter, it depends on what you want to be ready for. If you want to be able to jump out of helicopters with your rifle, then Nightforce, Badger, Leupold, etc. All of these rings are $100+ for a set.

Of course, I also know lots of guys running 700s with nothing more than a $20 Weaver base and $50 Burris rings and their rifles shoot no better or worse than mine. Not because of the rings, anyway.

A good general rule of thumb is to buy the best that you can comfortably afford.

If you want what could be considered the best, then any of those mentioned above will do you, although TPS and Seekins seem to be the best bang for the buck brands.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Don't use the weaver rings when you receive the scope as they will leave ring marks. At the very least go with the burris XTR's, very good for the price and quite sturdy. If you have the money go with the above sets.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

As said it depends on what you are doing. If you are building something to take to the range, hunt with, etc, I really like Burris Signature Zee rings.

If you were going to be jumping out of helicopters, this would obviously not be my choice, and I'd spend the extra on TPS, Seekins, etc.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

I really like my Seekins rings. If for no other reason than I just don't like the nut/bolt sticking out of the side of so many others. The Seekins just look a lot cleaner to me.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Hey all
Thanks for all of your suggestions...The Seekins have a lot of great reviews, but the Aadmounts look to me as if they would work very well with my Murphy Precision picatinny scope mount.
Now, I just need to figure out what height rings I will need...Any suggestions on ring height for the Remington 700SPS w/ Murphy Precision 20 MOA picatinny scope mount ?

Thanks !

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Burris signature Zee rings, amazing is the only way to describe them. No ring marks, allows for an even spread out tight grip on the scope. And you can center the turrets then use the ring inserts to get as close to zero as you can. That way you have max adjustments. Or use the inserts however you'd like, I put 10MOA elevation on mine.
Anyways the rings are solid, wonderfully engineered, and again, NO RING MARKS!! Use them once and you'll become a converted like me.

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Thanks all for the great advice...I've at least got it narrowed down a little now. Another member offered to sell me some Seekins rings and I might go with them...Just need to find out what ring height I'm going to be needing...

What ring height should I go with ?
I really have no clue on how to select. this rifle is going to be kind of a Jack-of-all-trades... Mainly 100-200m. But I am going to use this rifle for the 2013 World Police Fire Games in Belfast, Ireland. Distances will be 200m,300m, and 600m.

This is an awesome site to accomplish what I need to do and y'all offer up some excellent advice...especially for us noobs.

Thanks !

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

badger ordnance aluminum ring they tough and light go with low rings so you can have the optic as close to the barrel as possible. plus the BO rings will last forever and if you drop the go you will know your gun is still on target. spend the extra for the rings you spent good money on the scope with something that cost $40 to attache to your rifle you will regret it down the road.... as steve always says buy once

by the way triad tac has the rings

Re: Scope Rings...Any Advice ?

Awesome advice guys...It was kinda hard to decide ! I went with a set of like-new Seekins rings that another member was nice enough to part with. I definitely did take the advice of spending a little extra on rings so as to make the most of my scope and rifle...I'm sure any impatience would have left marks on my scope and who knows what else !
Thanks again everyone...I'll be sure to post some pics of my setup once everything is installed.
