I've looked through some of these posts for awhile and I might have missed it but I am having a hard time finding an adaquate scope ring/mount for my Springfield Armory 4-16x56 30 mm Gen 3 scope. I have tried Leupold, Weaver, and Burris rings and mounts up to XHigh but the objective lens still rests on the Picatinny rails, and keeping the rings from screwing down. So my question is, is that acceptable or is there something else out there that I dont know about yet.

Thanks

Re: Scope Rings Too Short

I'm attempting to mount it on a SA SOCOM II. It has a VLTOR extended cluster rail. I've tried both the Weaver and Burris mounts, but everything so far has been too short. Is there such a thing as a "bracket" of sorts that a mount could sit on? And would the recoil affect the rail - bracket - mount from loosening?

Re: Scope Rings Too Short

The Burris extra high rings are 1.0" from the top of the rail to the bottom of the tube, so this means your objective bell diameter is around 3.25" or more? Might be difficult to get any kind of cheek weld on that thing, even if it wasn't touching the rail.

Re: Scope Rings Too Short

alternatively, you could use shorter rings on a rail riser. brownells sells risers in various heights. they are short things with just enough length to carry the rings, so your objective bell is lifted by both the riser and the rings, but the bell does not have to clear the riser.
