Rifle Scopes scope styles? comp, tac, hunting?

Are there hard definitions for the style, and usages of rifle scopes?
Competition
Tactical
Hunting

I am looking for something that I can use across multi disciplines.
My primary use would be hunting and target shooting.
I don't think I will get into competition, PRS, etc., but who knows?
