I'll second that. I have one in FFP. Very good scope at a good price. The new Viper HS Long Range is also a VERY good value. I'm assume the glass is about the same as the PST. Midway normally has them all in stock and there are usually coupons you can get for $50 off.

Plus if you ever break them, they will fix or replace it for free.

If you are under 1K I would agree that Vortex is a great route to go. I have a Sightron SIII that is excellent in every way. I am very happy with it. Optically it is better than my Leupold Mark 4 and it was about half the price.

Take a look at the Vortex Viper PST line and the Weaver tactical, the best scopes for under $1000. You can't go wrong with either, only problem is trying to find a Viper PST, they're backordered everywhere...

Im taking a look at them now. I like the fact that you can customize the turrets. However I was wanting something in tactical mils and vortex has moa. What's the difference?

Re: Scope suggestions for a rem 700 .308

Whatever scope you get make sure the turrets and reticles match, it'll be alot easier to learn with. The Vortex PST has been getting great feedback on here for awhile now. It may be next scope as well, since I've still got a Mil/MOA Mark 4 on my rifle. Of course once you learn to use something and do it enough it isn't such a big deal. However, in my opinion Mil/Mil is the way to go just simpler math behind it.

Re: Scope suggestions for a rem 700 .308

I wanted mils just because im used to it. The optic that I have mounted on my SAW uses mils and its also used in all of the binos. I've been looking at the vortex and I do like what I've seen. However im not sure how to tell if I can use a scope to make close to 1000 yrds shots because I know some don't make enough corrections for that distance. What do I need to look for?

Re: Scope suggestions for a rem 700 .308

A 20MOA base has a flat surface to mount both rings to if that's what you mean. The skinny part goes towards the muzzle. It gives you 20 MOA elevation to extend the range that your scope can adjust to. 20MOA is common because with the majority of Tactical scopes it gives you plenty of usable elevation to reach out to 1,000+. Unless your lobing mortars. Don't skimp on the base you defintely want one that's high quality like NF or Badger etc. Find the thread about getting started in long range shooting and kill some time there. It'll really give you alot of info as a new shooter.
