So just getting in to long range shooting. Will just be for fun and some range shooting no competitions or anything, out to maybe 500 yards. Picked up a 6.5CM MVP in Oryx chassis so nothing super fancy

Looking to pick up a scope in the next couple months between $600-$1000. Also used pricing is fine doesnt have to be new. Just looking for some suggestions so I can start looking around and doing some research

Was kinda leaning toward a viper gen ii 5-25 but really open to anything

Also what does everyone prefer FFP or SFP?

Thanks

It would be our pleasure to discuss different options with you. Great offerings in your price range include:

Hawke Frontier & Sidewinders

Bushnell LRTS & DMR II

Athlon Ares ETR & BTR, Midas TAC

Steiner P4Xi

Meopta Optika6

Give a call to discuss what would be best for you

I'm another proponent for the Vortex Viper PST Gen II. I have the pleasure of messing with many different scopes of many different price points pretty much all day, every day and I think it's the best option for under $1000.

The Ares ETR is made in China. The Athlon Cronus is from Japan. I wouldn't hesitate because of China made. That glass is outstanding, quality is solid, turrets feel great, and tracking works. Considering the feature set and specs, you're getting a lot for under $1k. The single grip I've heard from only a few is that apparently once in a while someone gets one where the lines on the turret don't line up with the clicks, but I've heard Athlon will swap your scope out with a new one. Mine was fine. I run a Bushnell XRS 2 on my comp gun and a Mark 5 HD on another. I would consider those each a small step up respectively, but the price tag naturally goes along with that. I'd have no issue taking the Ares out to a mile.

Are the Athlon and PST Gen II made in China? Any in this price range that aren't? Thanks

No the PST Gen II is made in the Philippines as mentioned. They really are a good option in that price range. Excellent features like the zero stop and clickless zeroing as well as very good glass and a great reticle in the 7C. Popped one on my .223 and it works great.

I have an Athlon Midas TAC 5-25x56 and a Meopta Optika6 5-30x56 on 6.5 Creedmoor rifles. Both come in well under $1k and are excellent optics for the money. Overall I think I like the Optika6 a little better, except when I'm looking through the Midas TAC. ? It's personal preference, but my eyes like the glass and reticle of the Meopta a lot. I have looked through the PST II at the range, and I'd have no complaints with that one either. You'll spend more for good rings for a 34mm tube, but you get more adjustment range. Meopta is made in the Czech Republic, Vortex in the Philippines, an Athlon in China. You really can't go wrong with any of them, pick a reticle you like and go for it.
