    Hello all,

What is the lowest set of 30 MM rings I could get, and then what is the lowest set of 34 MM rings I could get? I currently have a 30 MM main tube scope on my rifle with medium rings. I always like the scope to be as low as possible but these are just too high. If I were to place bare scope on rail, it would be perfect. Obviously, that's impossible. So what's the lowest I can go? I might upgrade to a different scope with 34mm main tube in the near future which is why I also ask for those. I've thought about getting a lower rail but they all seem to be really high. If it matters, I have a 20 moa base on a howa HCR action model 1500.

    **edit**
I forgot to mention, it would also help if I could go lower not just because I like a scope as low as possible, but for getting a better cheek weld.

    Thanks,

    ST

It sounds like, even with low rings, you will need to build up the comb. I used pipe insulation and that medical tape that only sticks to itself (Vetrap purchased at TSC). There are other, better options but it will get the job done since I plan to get an adjustable stock in the near future.

Rather than bottoming out your scope (there are some pretty low options out there) you would probably be better off putting a Karsten cheek riser on there or stick some foam under a stock pack (some stock packs come with valcro strips to put under the pack to raise the cheek weld).

As for 30mm rings.. APA 0.750" are the lowest I've found.
also, check out GodA'Grip for cheek risers.. they have nice pads for this application.

Those American Precision rings looks really low, I like them. And yes, I may have to make some homemade modifications to be able to get a proper cheek weld. I currently have medium height Burris tactical rings. Hopefully after getting some lower ones there won't be too much material that I'll be needing to add in order to get a higher comb height.

OP you do realize that it's mainly the size of the objective lens housing that controls how low you can mount the scope. Right?

    How big is yours?

Objective lens diameter is 50mm but bell diameter is just shy of 60mm. It's not just the size of the objective that controls how low I can go. Main tube diameter also plays a role in it. For example, the difference between the outside of the main tube to the outside of the bell will vary from a 1inch main tube scope with a 50 MM objective lens to a scope with 34 MM main tube and 50 MM objective lens. You'll need higher rings for the one inch tube scope than you will with the 34 MM tube scope. In my rifle/Scope setup, I just want to get as low as possible.

Howa HCR, Seekins 30mm low rings, 44mm objective.

    That is incorrect

For example, the difference between the outside of the main tube to the outside of the bell will vary from a 1inch main tube scope with a 50 MM objective lens to a scope with 34 MM main tube and 50 MM objective lens.
While you are correct about the difference in ring height, the longitudinal axis of the scope (and your eyeball) will be at the same exact height on both of those scopes in your example.

I'm sure you can find on the internet the formula that will give you the answer or you can derive it with an easy sketch.

And why is cheek weld a problem when your rifle has an adjustable comb?

You all are right about this rifle having adjustable comb height. While I feel it is not "the perfect" cheek weld because I run out of height adjustment, I'll still be able to shoot fine. My main reasoning as to wanting to bring my scope lower is simply because I like a scope as low as possible. There will literally be no gain in performance of the rifle, I fully understand that. Again, I just prefer to go as low as possible for myself, that's the way i like it. Those seekins low look good. That's about the gap I have in mind only mine has a 50mm objective lens vs that 44mm lens.
