Scopes for stealth 338 lapua

I had a Gen 1 Viper PST 6-24 that only lasted about 100 rounds on a Savage 110FCP in 338LM. There were several others here who had similar failures about the same time, all on braked magnums. The observation/theory was that they do OK with straight recoil, even if it's fairly heavy, but apparently they weren't built to withstand the reverse-recoil impulse that comes with a brake (or airgun, etc.). I do not know how the Gen 2 have fared since they came out, but I would not recommend a Gen 1, personally.

Also what mounts should I go with? They don't have to be fancy or anything. It may sound crazy but I got the gun just to have. I'm not going to be shooting crazy long distances, well not anytime soon anyway.

If you're going with the Vortex scope, you might as well go with their own brand Precision Matched rings. As far as I know, these are still manufactured by Seekins, and are the same as the ones that Seekins sells under their own name with the exception that they offer different heights. Seekins rings are about as good as anyone's.

Ive been running a genII razor vortex with seekins rings on a .338 LM Improved since i built it, no issues whatsoever and the glass has been just fine all the way out to 2500 yds. However, i wouldn't hesitate to run a gen II viper on it either as far as durability goes but the razor is a superior scope for real distance in the Vortex line.
