So I see black hills and federal GMM both put a sealant around their primers on 308 ammo. Is that something the avg reloader can buy and use as well?

Re: Sealant around the primer?

Nail polish has Formaldehyde in it. That stuff can kill a primer. Not really necessary to seal them. No accuracy gains.

Re: Sealant around the primer?

Commercial primer sealant is a cellulose acetate based compound in an evaporative solvent.

A form of this same compound can also be had in metal layout fluids such as Dykem.

I seal all my bulk 223 reloads with Dykem Steel Blue (or red if you so choose). Just a small drop from a syringe needle on the top of the primer, and it automatically flows around the entire crease before the solvent evaporates completely.

Works like a charm, and takes only a second per case to apply, literally.

Any industrial supply store should have it. Or order it from Grainger, MSC, McMaster-Carr, etc.

I got my syringes at Tractor Supply company, in their veterinary medicine supply section.

Re: Sealant around the primer?

I just use my wife's old nail polish. Since you put it on the primed case the polish isn't going to be in contact with the primer or compound.
