Any input on these cases, personal experiences with and/ or other alternative case recommendations would be appreciated.

I recently bought an SKB 4909 with "layered foam" interior.

The lid has glued in convoluted foam. The bottom has a piece of convoluted foam glued to a slab of white styrofoam. Not quite what I expected but I am doing a custom Kaizen foam interior so not a big deal.
