Gunsmithing Seekins DBM - getting a 338 Edge to feed

I have a new 338 Edge build on a Surgeon 1086 with th e Seekins DBM. After I got the rifle from the smith I found that it would not feed from the magazine. I sent it back to the smith along with 5 dummy rounds. Got it back the second time and it still won't feed. I don't think think he actually tried it as one of the two mags i sent would not even retain the last cartridge.. I have messed with the feed lips and can only get reliable feeding for the first two rounds. Anyone know a gunsmith that can make it feed and is willing to work on another smiths build?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Seekins DBM - getting a 338 Edge to feed

Check your pillar length. The majority of DBM problems have a spacing component. Too many don't understand that the separation between the action and the DBM has to be the distance that the supplied pillars measure and has nothing to do with what the stock thickness measures.

Re: Seekins DBM - getting a 338 Edge to feed

I believe the Seekins bottom metal and mags latch on the side in the rear. This allowed allot of play in the mag in the two examples I saw and the front of the mag would droop excessively in front. This allowed the tip of the cartridge to drop below the feed lip in the front of the action. The two gunsmith that had to fit these said they had to set the bottom metal extra deep to get the tip of the bullet up high enough to get it to feed. Both shortened the supplied pillars and were able to get them to work reliably once they did a bunch of gunsmith magic.

Mine had to do with the bolt release had to trim some off of it to allow the bolt to com back just a tad more. I sent mine to Glenn he fixed the smiths screw up.

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like the bottom metal is not bedded close enough to the action so the mags are hanging down a bit too low. I'll give Travis a call and see if he can take a look at it.
