I'm with you. Seen many a meterorite. Google it up and there are certain times of the year when it rain meteorites! But I have seen more, something called UFO's.....

dam i dont know if i would wanna see a ufo but was driving home from dropping the woman off at work last night and just happen to look to my left and seen it, it was awesome, ive never seen one so close but it then exploded and caught on fire and it was still neat to watch

i was biking in to work this morning and i swear i thought this thing was gonna freakin nock me off my bike it hit soo flippen close by....it streaked alll the way across the sky, lit everything up for a second or two. wow

Saw video of it, was a pretty decent sized one - and I just got my metal detector (Minelab brand!!!) - be aweful fun to try to find that sucker - they are worth big bucks!!!

Bolites are better - they explode in the upper atmosphere and you can hear them
The crazy thing about meteors is that they're burning in around 10-20 miles <span style="font-style: italic">per second!</span> The small, short lived ones are about the size of a grain of sand. The larger ones that streak across the sky, lighting everything up for a few seconds are closer to the size of basketballs or cars. They often break apart in the upper atmosphere anywhere from 30-60 miles up. By the time the pieces fall to the ground they're just going about 120-200 mph.
The ones the size of houses and larger - well those tend to explode in the upper atmosphere in the megaton range. Think Tunguska

I know where there is a 1200 pound meteor! At the Meteor Crator in Holbrook,Arizno. Veiw the mile wide crater impacted by a gaint meteor years ago. A musemun is located there. Fees required. Display inside is a 1200 pound meteor,mostly made of nickel,if one is able to pick it up,its theirs!

Well, it's still debated what exactly caused it but the most likely scenario is still that it was an asteroid that detonated high in the atmosphere and not an impactor. Recent supercomputer CFD simulations at Sandia Labs back up the math on that one. Other ideas include one of Tesla's energy projection experiments or an alien spacecraft, however like most things in life some things may be possible, but are they really probable? I give the asteroid idea a high plausibility and the latter two a near impossibility.
Not all ideas are equal.

Over the last two weeks you could see Mercury near the horizon with Venus (MUCH brighter) at sunset to the northwest. Mercury's orbit is so close to the sun that we rarely get to see it. Mars is pretty bright right now too - high above in the evening.

But "they" are wrong, there will be no unique conjuntions/planetary alignments in 2012. But who knows, maybe the unseen planet X or wormwood will come by.
