Has anyone here ever sold used brass as scrap metal before? Just curious if it's a viable way to dispose of shot-out brass or if it's simply not worth the hassle.

Re: Sell used brass??

I've done it with berdan primed stuff that used to be left all over an old club range. After about 3 years of sweeping the garbage up there was enough scrap weight there to fund the purchase of a bronze cannon. My dad currently uses it to drive golfballs to the opposite side of the mountain.

Range pickups that I can't use are decapped, cleaned and traded with people for stuff that I can use.

Split necks, loose primer pockets, etc. go into the berdan bucket.

Re: Sell used brass??

Depends on how much you have. It seems that brass is running between 25 and 75 cents a pound. It would depend on how far you have to drive and how much you are getting rid of. Check recycling prices in your area.

Re: Sell used brass??

Thanks for the input guys! I'm about 10-15 minutes from a couple metal recycling places, so it would seem to be worth it to save all of the junk brass. I do some remodeling work on the side once in a while and I've found it to be worth it to hold on to any scrap/old copper pipe and/or brass/bronze fixtures. Just wasn't sure if fired brass was worth it or not. Sounds like it is.

Re: Sell used brass??

My local shop sells used brass.. Check your local shop they might buy some of yours.. Probably wont pay top $$ but it will get them off your hands.

Or try your recycling yard they will probably pay better.

Also see if anyone off the hide or any other forums or local shooters around you wanna buy them from you. I know a lot of people always looking for some brass.

Re: Sell used brass??

It all depends on the going price but overall it is worth it. I collected a 5 gal. bucket of berdan primed surplus from a shoot and received $53 for the brass. Not a bad way to fund your new brass purchase.

Re: Sell used brass??

Yeah I'm primarily talking about shot-out or junk brass here. I wouldn't sell brass with several loadings on it to be re-used. Only as scrap. $53 for a 5gal can is entirely worth it! Looks like I'm saving the junk from now on!
