Re: Semi Auto 308 Pattern Question???
It refers to the magazine type that they use. Most of the current Armalites manufactured during the 1994 gun ban until present use a magazine based on the M14 mag. DPMS pattern refers to the original waffle magazine pattern that the the original Armalite company of the 50's and early 60's used. Knights Armament used the original pattern when they started producing their SR25 in the 80's and still use it today. After the 1994 AWB sunset in 2004, DPMS started producing their LR308's using the original AR10 waffle/SR25 pattern. The GAP-10, Larue, POF and almost all other manufacturers have adopted the original magazine pattern. It became known as the DPMS pattern due to the fact that right after the AWB sunset, DPMS,Knights and Armalite were the major manufactures at the time. DPMS were manufacturing the largest amount of 308 AR's using the original mag design. With the sunsetting of the AWB, almost all of the newer 308 AR manufactures have adopted what became known as the DPMS/SR25 mag pattern. Pretty much only Armalite and Noveske are still using a mag based off the M14. Even Armalite is now producing a series that takes the DPMS/SR25 mag.
