Leica 1600r, bought new. Little used. Bright mid day and a big 16" steel circle standing alone. No hit.
Longest reading on a boat at sea 1080 yds.
Pretty worthless in my world. Do these things work any better than mine?

I had a 1600b, and I assume performance should be identical. I'll say first that RF's are very strongly effected by differing conditions...bright sun, haze, dust, angles, reflectivity etc. Also, being very still is super important. So keep that in mind.

But my 1600 could easily do well foliaged trees at 1300 in any reasonable conditions (not fog for example). I hit cows out to 1200 IIRC, but it was hard. 1k, however, not hard if I could be still enough. Max distance I ever got out of it was 1790ish on a tree. But that was pretty rare. Hitting at 15-1600, however, was not.

So while I cannot judge your conditions, I would say that it appears your experience is definitely below what these units are generally capable of. Leica is pretty good about hitting their quoted numbers. I would say a call to Leica would be worth your time.

This is pretty much how my 1600 is as well.

Something must be up with yours. With the 2000b prices coming down, I wonder if you could talk them into an upgrade. The 2000 is great unit, easily beats the 1600

I got an invoice back from Leica.
My new ish 1600r is no longer serviced. I can upgrade to a 1600r for 299.00, or upgrade to a 2700 for 599.00.
So, what about my newish unit!
Bad vibes to be honest.

Sorry to hear that... FWIW, my 1600, 2000 and 2700 have been as advertised. One of the guys I shoot with just got a 2700 as well. We've had no issues ranging 66% IPSC to 1020 and 100% IPSC to 1250 (longest range we have now) and I've checked those along side my Terrapin and they're within 1yd.
Again, sorry Leica is letting you down.
