What say you? For new out of the box receiver.

Barrel nut will screw on with just a little resistance.

How quick do you want to build?
I understand what VJJ is saying but on the other hand you purchased a new receiver and have a reasonable expectation that it will be in new condition.

I'd call them up at least, truth be told it would effect my ADD enough to where I'd probably have them replace it.

Just my opinion on it.

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back?

I'd be pretty ticked if I paid my hard-earned dollars for a "new" upper receiver and it arrived with boogered up threads or other "damage" as pictured above. At a minimum, I'd probably let whomever you bought it from know that it arrived in something other than "new in the box" condition with boogered threads (and any other damage that you may be able to observe) and see what they say (i.e. - they may be able to offer you a refund/exchange depending on what you want to do, how long you can wait for a replacement, etc., or if you want to keep it, they may offer you some sort of a partial refund or perhaps a discount on a future purchase/etc.).

HOWEVER...if everything screws together without issue and it doesn't effect the function/accuracy/etc. of the rifle/upper, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back?

even if it appears not to affect the operation, you will always know that its there. If you are anything like me it will bother you just wondering about it. Like has been said, you paid good money and deserve a new product. I would definatly send it back. Thats just me and my anal mind.

That would be your OCD, your ADD would never let you send it back, because your mind would change before you got it back

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back?

My opinion to the OP, if it will thread on without a bunch of force required, I would run it. Can't see where it would make a difference.. you will do more than that to the cosmetics if you spend any time shooting it at all. I just can't see that minor of a thing bothering me to that level, but it is your decision

Truth!

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back?

I probably would not even notice it out of the package. I would have screwed the barrel nut on before I had the chance to see if anything was messed up.

Re: Send this AR upper receiver back?

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

I contacted the vendor and they offered to replace it. They are a good company so I was never concerned about them fixing it. When asked, they echoed the comments here; it was just cosmetic damage.

Since the damage was likely caused during shipping, I will just chalk that up to doing business through the mail (saving fuel and sales tax).

I am going to keep it and use it as is. At least I will have something to blame my misses on.....
